My baby boy,

People always tell you to do things that “fill your cup up”. At least that’s a saying they tell moms a lot. It’s difficult to put into words, but today definitely filled my cup.

This morning we met Beenie and her kids at Eat and Park for breakfast as an “End of Summer” celebration. I went there all the time in high school, but don’t think I’ve been there since.

While we were waiting for our table, I saw a man walking towards us and out of the restaurant. He definitely looked familiar and I had to take my chance. I was correct, it was one of my high school math teachers. This wasn’t just any teacher, I had been looking for the contact information for this teacher for a few years now. His name is Mr. Siverts and I had him two consecutive years in high school for math classes. I actually asked to be put into his class the second time around.

When you are younger, I don’t think you’re able to fully appreciate what some people bring into your life. I had been wanting to reach out to both him and my high school track coach for years, but couldn’t find them or the time to write. I finally found the time to write a thank you letter to my high school track coach, but he died shortly after I finished it, before I ever sent it. I just think people deserve to know the positive impact they have on our lives.

As soon as I saw him, I took my chance, and it was him. He sat down next to me and I proceeded to tell him how I had tried to find him just because I wanted to thank him for being such an amazing teacher and that I thought he was the best. He asked what I was up to and we talked about you. I made sure to tell him about ten times that I thought he was the greatest teacher I had and that I learned so much from him. It’s funny, because he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I loved his class and learned so much.

Your siblings and I ate breakfast after with Beenie and her kids. It was beautiful chaos. Kids were doing gymnastics, little dogs were drinking out of bottles, and the kids were just in their own little world. It’s really nice to see your kids get along so well with the kids of your best friend from the teen years.

I did want to let you know that Elijah had a rough morning. While he was finding a show to watch, we noticed that there was now a Lego Masters Jr. Elijah cried as soon as it came on and said you would have done so well at it. He’s also concerned who he will be partners with if he’s on the show. You would have lost your mind, that’s all there is to it.

Tomorrow is your siblings’ first day of school. Ellie is so worried, please watch over her. She was a little cork board in her locked and I went ahead and put a picture of you and her on that so she can see your smiling face every time she opens her locker. Keep an eye on all three of them tomorrow, they’re excited, but also nervous.

I love you so much, my baby. I wish tomorrow I could tell you to have a great first day of 4th grade! Goodnight and sweet dreams.
